Q & A

Is chiropractic effective?
Chiropractic helps remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function well it must be free of interference. By restoring spinal function with Chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference resulting from misaligned vertebrae is removed, allowing optimal nervous system function and improved health.

Why should I see Dr. Spaur?
Visiting our office is not only for spinal problems. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to keep your body at peak performance.  We do knees to neck structural evaluation and treatment.  Gentle, no drugs, no surgery - a truly natural, effective alternative.

What is Subluxation?
When vertebrae or peripheral joints become misaligned or move out of normal position, this is referred to as subluxation.  Subluxations can be caused by a variety of issues ranging from a minor slip or bump to a car accident or any sudden trauma.  When a vertebra is subluxated, it begins to put pressure on nerves, blood vessels and everything around it.  This pressure comes with a price.  The subluxation interrupts the normal brain cell to tissue cell nerve pathways, reducing body function and wellness.  If the subluxation remains untreated, the spine and adjacent structures begin to degenerate.  This degeneration becomes more difficult to reverse as time goes by, and the longer it will probably take to return to wellness.

How does chiropractic care work?
Chiropractic is a comprehensive, natural way of looking at the human body.  It's based on the fact that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing.  The body is, in essence, completely controlled by the brain through its connection via the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves that make up the body.  When this system is not functioning at its peak, the overall performance of the human body is adversely affected.

In the chiropractic profession, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient.  While supplementation and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions can be viewed as band-aids to treat symptoms rather than going to the source and treating the real problem.

While it's often perceived that the chiropractor is solely able to treat back and neck pain structure, this is simply a small portion of what the profession is capable of handling.  Chiropractors not only treat soft and hard tissue problems, such as sciatica and joint pain, but are frequently called on to deal with other important issues.  Some of these conditions include fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, headaches and a multitude of others, often poorly handled by the medical profession.  Chiropractic is truly a rational intervention versus the damaging effects of long-term drug therapy, which is neither designed, nor intended, to make you healthy.  Want to start getting healthy again?  Try a rational intervention; try chiropractic:  a natural, health-centered, wellness approach to healing.  Click on the "Contact Us" tab above for a map from your current location to our office.

What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?
Adjustments are therapeutic movements of joint structures to relieve nerve pressure. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae or other joints that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma, such as a car accident.  Yes, we do adjust peripheral joints:  feet, shoulders, ribs, hands, elbows, TMJ, etc.

When these vertebrae and/or other joints are out of place, it has an overall systemic effect from muscular to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and proper nerve flow to the body, we can't function at our peak.

Chiropractic is the safest healing profession known to man, and its professional insurance is five to twenty times cheaper than medical doctors.  Our office uses a special instrument to move a vertebra and/or other joints back into place. This happens with a quick movement that is 30 times faster than hands adjusting.  It truly is gentle chiropractic.  You will appreciate that!

What can I expect from my visit to Lakeside Chiropractic?
Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many people. Maybe you've heard through a friend or have done some research online. It's possible that you are just fed up with living in pain and it's time to do something about it. In either case, your first visit to our office involves getting to know the chiropractor and the chiropractor getting to know you.  We will be discussing your history, current condition and goals.  If we accept your case, you will be examined and adjusted on your first visit.

What results can I expect from treatment?
Chiropractic is based on the premis that removing structural, postural, and nutritional imbalances will allow your body to heal itself. For this to happen, the network of nerves and signals from your brain, must be without any interruption. Dr. Spaur has the ability and clinical skills to remove these interruptions, or misalignments, thus allowing your body to perform as it was meant to.

If you've ever been in a car accident, played a sport, fallen down or just bumped into something too hard, it's very possible that you are not functioning at your best due to a misalignment or imbalance.  While there are many potential mechanical or structural causes for misalignment, there are also chemical reasons.  For instance, if you smoke or drink excessively, or even have a poor diet, the chemical issues in your body can eventually cause underlying tissue damage, which will ultimately produce dis-ease.  Chiropractic looks for, and treats, the cause of disease, not the disease, itself.  All natural; no drugs, no surgery.

Allowing Lakeside Chiropractic to get you back on track both structurally and nutritionally will bring your body back to the proper state it should be in to perform at its peak.
